Miami, Florida

Weird and wonderful tree

Why we were there: Coconut Grove Art Festival

When we were there: February 2025

Where did we go:

My family has lived in Florida since 1988 and I have never visited Miami, until now. After setting up our booth in the hot Florida sun the first thing we did was get a cubano at Versailles World Famous Cuban Restaurant, which was right near our Airbnb. The food was delicious and the restaurant flamboyant. At night we went to explore Little Havana which is the next neighborhood over from where we were staying, so super close. Lots of street art and whirling lights. Cuban music and roasted pork smells everywhere. There were lines for the touristy old well known spots, but we found a small restaurant that was not crowded and fantastic. Sat outside and watched all the goings-on.

After the show, we booked tickets for the Art Deco Architecture Tour on South Beach by the Miami Preservation League. It was an hour and a half walking tour of the main Art Deco area right in the heart of 1920s South Beach. Highly recommend it! I learned all sorts of things about Miami history, South Beach, and Art Deco Architecture. You can see the pictures in the gallery below.

Things on our list for next time:
It would be pretty need to spent a night or two in one of the old hotels. And maybe some everglades tours. Also art, there is lots of art in Miami.
