Tulsa, Oklahoma
Why we were there: Mayfest
When we were there: May 2021
Where we stayed: A friend’s childhood home complete with mom, dad, and cats.
How was the show: It was a great show! Fun and full of people wanting to get out of the house at one of the first big events in the area since the pandemic started. The weather cooperated with us for this one. Tulsa has a history of heavy winds (think tornadoes) but we lucked out this year. And…the Mayfest team at AHHA awarded us Best of Jewelry. Thank you, Mayfest! We are looking forward to returning in 2022.
Where did we go?: First stop was the Woody Guthrie Center. A destination that we have been wanting to visit for some time. If you go to Tulsa this should be your first stop, and I hear the Bob Dylan Center will be opening next year right next door. Then the Philbrook Museum, which had amazing art exhibits, many of which were there to discuss and commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, and the astounding gardens were a treat to stroll through. Then a ride through Lortondale to take a quick look at some neato mid-century architecture.
What is on our list for the next visit: Not sure how this could have happened but we missed Slumgullion, so we must revisit the Philbrook. And, what was I thinking, I did not make it over to the Center of the Universe. Also, a friend recommended the Price Tower, by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Snapshots: Sorry I didn’t credit all the artists from the exhibits at the Philbrook!
