Ann Arbor, Michigan
A rainy day show.
Why we were there: Ann Arbor Art Fair
When we were there: July 2021
How was the show: Despite a day of heavy rain, this show was a great one. Smaller due to COVID restrictions, the crowd was happy that artists were back and very supportive of our work. Patrons showed up on Thursday in force and on Friday in their ponchos and wellies. Saturday was sunny and crowded. Looking forward to exhibiting at this show again.
Where did we go: Due to the 2020 cancellation, we have been waiting for this show for a while and had made the decision to take some extra time rocking hunting on the great lake. On our way up to Michigan we stopped at the Metal Museum in Memphis, TN. They were between exhibits, but we visited with the Metal Museum Store where we sell our work. It is always a treat to meet our retail partners in person and check out the displays! Once we got to Michigan our first stop was a couple of days of rock hunting on Lake Michigan. Our Airbnb was a scenic farm with goats and artist studios. Rock hunting took us from the tip of Northport at Christmas Cove down the lake’s eastern coast to Frankfort. Christmas Cove was wonderful, we found lots of Petoskey stones, fossils, and brightly colored granites. Although I had visions that Leland, MI was paved in Leland Blue, this was not the case. Not sure if we found any, but had a great time nonetheless. Our second day of rock hunting was in the rain, so no crowds but a little damp. We ended the afternoon with the most amazing smoked fish at The Cove. Due to the weather and the length of our trip we really did do to much while in Ann Arbor itself. We were pooped and missed the exhibit Detroit Style: Car Design in the Motor City, 1950–2020 at The Detroit Institute of the Arts. But on the way home we stopped in Nashville for a visit to the Lane Motor Museum. A weird and wonderful collection of unusual cars through out the 20 and 21th Century.
What is on our list for the next visit: Rock hunting in the Upper Peninsula and a visit to the Detroit Institute of the Arts.
