Ann Arbor, Michigan
Seen while exploring Ann Arbor.
Why we were there: Ann Arbor Art Fair - State Street
When we were there: July 2023
Where did we go: We checked off a big bucket list item during this visit to Ann Arbor. That was a trip to Detroit to see the Ford Museum. I describe this museum as if the entire US populations grandmother opened their closets for everyone to see and explore. The British Museum of Americana? It was a day long trip down memory lane. We specifically went there to see the Dymaxion house but discovered the Charles and Ray Eames Mathematica: A World of Numbers. . . .and Beyond exhibit, which was glorious! From the Eames Office Website: “Mathematica: A World of Numbers. . . .and Beyond was the first fully immersive and large-scale exhibition produced by the Eames Office, designed for the March 1961opening of a new science wing at the California Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles. The museum approached IBM to contribute to the new wing, and asked Charles to propose a suitable exhibition”. Three versions of Mathematica are currently on display one in Boston, one in Queens, and this one in Dearborn, MI. We actually entered the exhibit through the back and it took us, me, a while to figure out what we had entered into.
Also, so many Mold-A-Ramas! And Mold-A-Rama vs. Mold-A-Matic, who knew? When I was young we would get ours at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, see a map of them all!
